Prior to our electricity distribution journey that started in 2013, the electricity distribution activity in our distribution region was carried out by the Eshot General Directorate, which was established within the Izmir Municipality until 1982.

With the regulations made in 1982, the electricity facilities of the municipality and union are transferred to the Turkish Electricity Authority (TEK). Subsequently, TEK Aegean Electricity Distribution Coordinatorship is established to cover the provinces of İzmir, Manisa, Uşak, Aydın, Denizli and Muğla. In 1990, Electricity Distribution Institutions affiliated to TEK were established for each province.

In 1994, the establishments started to operate under the Turkish Electricity Distribution Corporation (TEDAŞ) and this situation continued until 2004.

Within the framework of the reform efforts for the transition of the Turkish electricity energy sector to the market order, the distribution network operated by TEDAŞ is divided into 21 distribution regions and TEDAŞ is included in the scope and program of privatization with the Privatization High Council Decision dated 02.04.2004 and numbered 2004/22. In this direction, Gediz Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş., of which TEDAŞ is a shareholder. (Gediz EDAŞ) was established on 25.01.2005 to operate in the region covering İzmir and Manisa provinces.

Gediz EDAŞ obtains a "Distribution License" from the Energy Market Regulatory Authority with the Board Decision dated 24.08.2006 and numbered 874-33, and a "Retail Sales License" with the Board Decision no 874-34 of the same date, in order to operate in electricity distribution and retail sales.

The privatization process of Gediz EDAŞ was completed in 2013 and the electricity distribution journey began within Aydem Energy.

On 09.06.2015, the trade name of Gediz EDAŞ was changed to GDZ Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş. is changed to .
